Terms of Service

The rules for using LiftLock. Short, because the app is small and does not ask much of you. Section 4 is the one that matters most — please read it.

1. Agreement

By downloading or using LiftLock you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app. LiftLock is provided by Kode Foundry ("we", "us").

2. What you may do

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use LiftLock on devices you own or control, for your own use. Apple's standard App Store terms apply alongside these and take precedence where they conflict.

3. What you may not do

  • Reverse engineer, decompile or attempt to derive the source code, except where that right cannot lawfully be restricted.
  • Resell, sublicense, rent or redistribute the app, or its exercise content.
  • Use it to break the law, or to interfere with our services or anyone else's account.
  • Upload anything to your profile that is unlawful, or that you do not have the right to use.

4. Exercise instruction, injury and your own judgement

This is the most important section in these terms.

  • LiftLock provides general information about how gym machines and exercises work. It is not personal training, not coaching, and not medical advice.
  • It does not know your injuries, your history, your mobility or your limits. It cannot see your form and cannot tell you to stop.
  • Resistance training carries a real risk of injury. You are responsible for your own safety, your technique, your choice of weight, and for knowing when to stop.
  • If you have an injury, a medical condition, are pregnant, or are returning to training after a break, speak to a doctor or a qualified trainer before using this app's suggestions.
  • The suggested sets, reps and rest are generic starting points, not a programme written for you.
  • Use a spotter and safety pins for heavy free-weight work. LiftLock cannot help you if a lift goes wrong.

If something hurts, stop. No instruction in this app is worth an injury.

5. LiftLock is not a safety device

  • Blocking other apps is a focus aid, not a safety mechanism. Do not rely on it in any situation where being unable to reach an app could put you or anyone else at risk.
  • Emergency calls, Emergency SOS, Medical ID and accessibility features are never affected by LiftLock, and you can end a workout at any time to lift the block.
  • If you choose to turn on Guided Access, that is Apple's feature and your decision. Make sure you know your Guided Access passcode before you use it.

6. Blocking other apps

With your permission, LiftLock uses Apple's Screen Time frameworks to block other apps for the length of a workout. It cannot prevent you leaving LiftLock itself, and it cannot stop you removing the restriction in Settings. We make no promise that the block is unbreakable, because it is not, and no app on the App Store can offer one.

7. Your training data

Your workout history is stored on your device and is not backed up by us. If you delete the app, change phones without a device backup, or your device is lost, that history is gone and we cannot recover it. Keep a device backup if it matters to you.

8. Accounts

An account is optional. If you create one, keep your credentials secure — you are responsible for activity under your account. We may suspend or remove an account being used to break these terms. You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Account → Delete account, which removes your profile, picture and synced settings.

9. Price and changes

LiftLock is currently free. If we introduce paid features in future, anything you have already paid for will be honoured, and we will not start charging for something that was free without telling you first. We may add, change or remove features, and may stop offering the app; where a change is significant we will give reasonable notice.

10. Availability

The exercise library, the workout timer and your history all work offline. Optional account features depend on services we do not control, and we do not promise they will be uninterrupted or error-free.

11. Intellectual property

LiftLock, its name, its logo, its exercise text and its illustrations belong to Kode Foundry. The instructional content and every drawing in the app are original works. These terms do not transfer any of that to you. Anything you upload stays yours; by uploading it you allow us to store and display it inside the app for you.

12. Disclaimer and liability

LiftLock is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement, to the fullest extent the law allows.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, for lost data or training history, or for injury arising from your training. Our total liability in connection with LiftLock will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid us for it in the previous twelve months, or ten US dollars.

Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

13. Apple

Apple is not a party to these terms and has no obligation to provide support for LiftLock. Apple is a third-party beneficiary of these terms and may enforce them against you. Any claim that the app fails to conform to a warranty is our responsibility, not Apple's.

14. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The date at the top will change, and for material changes we will say so in the app. Continuing to use LiftLock after that means you accept the new version.

15. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the country in which Kode Foundry is established, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules, and the courts of that country have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory laws of your own country of residence.
